Kawasaki Shipyardin Kobe in 1929 and 1930,almost at the same
time as the Nippon Maru. Except for the Western-style design of the outfitting,vhich was delegated
to a British company,the overall design of the ship was done in Japan with a four-mast bark type
construction. She is one of the only four four-mast bark type ships,including the Nippon Maru,
remaining in the world.She has a steel hull and large inner bulk space resulting in a large hull to
provide the necessary width for the accommodation sections,dining room,and kitchen to accept a
large number of trainees on board. The size of each sail is properly limited so that young trainees,
